His dream was to simply be the best that he could be and just 18 months after he finished his chemotherapy he was selected to represent Great Britain.
He subsequently competed at European & World Championships and Paralympic Games. In his 17 years of competition he won a staggering 12 Paralympic medals from 5 Games, 4 of those medals being gold. Marc also won a further 21 medals from European and World Championships.
New Challenges
Now retired from international swimming Marc has embarked on a series of new challenges. Having already trekked in Nepal, Ecuador and Peru (the Inca Trail) he has begun to develop his mountaineering skills. To date he has climbed the world’s highest volcano, Cotopaxi in Ecuador; Mont Pelvoux part of the Massif des Ecrins in France and 22,200ft Mera Peak in Nepal. In 2009 he will embark on an expedition to climb Cho Oyu which at 8201 meters is the 6th highest mountain in the world. Climbing with him will be the acclaimed photographer Richard Human. One of Richard’s pictures can be seen in the banner of the Charities page of this site and you can see many more by visiting www.richardhuman.com.

Much of what Marc achieves would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of his friend and prosthetist Bob Watts. Click here to see the work that Bob undertakes at Dorset Orthopaedic:
